This piece by Francisco Meirino, a commission from the Mos Espa festival, is composed largely from the MEG sound archives. Created in 2016, it was reworked by the artist for the current edition of the Cave12 label in 2017.
"In the MEG archive, I primarily searched for acoustic events that I deliberately modified, filtered, edited, and extracted from their original context. In this way, I obtained a substance that was sufficiently abstract to be able to transform it into a sound piece where the editing and mixing of sounds, spatialized to create psycho-acoustic effects, are done in the spirit of musique concrète.
These same effects are sometimes also used as trans-communication techniques by shamans and other social or religious actors who use sound to gather/compose/manipulate their listeners. It is in this correlation that my work finds an echo to the concept of Mos Espa: jungle spirits, shamanism, trance music, etc." FM
